The Friendship With the Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. (Psalms 51:11 KJV Bible)

I am a wealthy man. I have several good friends. You might reckon that I am affluent in the things that count. I was born handicapped and have grown more crippled with years. I have been a diabetic for thirty years, and have had several complications from the disease because I ignored it during its early stages. I lost the use of my kidneys, and my wife gave me hers as a Christmas present 6 years ago. I have always pastored small churches, and I have never had a lot of money. If the world around evaluates this Christian, it would say, “He is passable at best.”  However, I have friends that have been with me every step of the way! My greatest friend is Jesus Christ who is revealed to me through the Holy Spirit. In this hub I introduce you to my friend, companion and comforter, the Holy Spirit.

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. (Psalms 51:11 KJV Bible)

Whatever friends I lose, I must never risk the loss of the Holy Spirit.

I hear the pleading of David in this Psalm. For a season he turns deaf ears to this Divine Guide, but now he is repentant. He well knows what happened to King Saul before him, and he mourns and grieves his sin. (Help me, O LORD, to ever learn this lesson that nothing is more important in this present living than friendship with the Holy Spirit.) With burdened heart he writes this fifty-first Psalm. “Uphold me with Thy free Spirit. Oh take not thy Holy Spirit from me.”

Who Is The Holy Spirit To Me?

The Greek word for this Divine Friend is “Paraclete” (it may be translated in English as "Counselor", "Helper", or "Comforter".). He is One with Jesus Christ and our heavenly Father. Our Savior introduces the coming Spirit to His disciples as “another comforter.”

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; (John 14:16 KJV Bible)

The Spirit’s work within me is to win me wholly to Divine Goodness. He convinces me of my sin; he guides me and allows me to repent; he urges me to Christ Jesus; and his cleansing Blood. The sacrifice of my Savior opens the way to God and my salvation; the Holy Spirit urges and guides me on this journey of faith. He reveals the Eternal Divine Love of God to me. My ‘Paraclete’ removes doubt, disperses fears, and creates trust. Then, He gives me assurance, forgiveness, feelings of Sonship, and sanctification.

And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30 KJV Bible)

No wonder David wails not to lose friendship with the Holy Spirit. Yes, indeed, I am a wealthy man for I have friends, and the greatest of these is Divine. The Holy Spirit is with me in me in the morning, through the day, and attends me at night. He ever testifies to me of Jesus within me.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Act 1:8 KJV Bible)

I am an avid church goer. I guide my churches to believe that the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost) is our friend, and He witnesses through us the presence of Jesus everywhere we go. How imprudent and sinful it is by act or wish or secret sin to grieve the Holy Spirit! On the other hand, how sensible it is to observe His every suggestion and follow His guiding voice along the way.

If we allow this friend to leave the Church, we would be no better than an army without an expert general. I believe it is even worse than this. Is there anything the Church of today more needs than to be refreshed and revived? Where does true revival come from? True Revival can come only from the Holy Spirit.

My Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I pray, “Take not thy Holy Spirit from me!”

For the Church, I pray, “ Take not Thy Holy Spirit from us.”

“Cast me not away from thy presence.”

I want your face and favor, Count me not away as worthless.

Continually permit me the privilege of coming before You.

Your comforts, counsels, assistances, and quickenings are more precious than gold to me.

With you as my friend I am prosperous. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Keep up the union connecting us, which is my solitary expectation of salvation.

It so great a wonder when so pure a Spirit deigns to continue in so low a heart as mine

However, Lord, it is all wonder; it is all amazing together – What a friend I have in you!

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
